The Traveling Sisterhood

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Each Best of Both Surf and Yoga Adventure trip brims with inspiration just screaming to be shared!
The most recent adventure in Puerto Rico was such a reminder of the sisterhood of women. Almost anything can happen when you put a group of women together for a week. All are faced with learning new things and restoring and renewing their bodies and souls. Eating each meal together, sweating together on the yoga mats and paddling into the waves of the sea to accomplish the wonderful empowering feeling of riding the waves!

As I watch the transformation and the bonds that are immediately formed in this setting it is a comforting reminder that women are sisters! When put together this amazing thing happens and instead of having only individual goals, minds and bodies join together and create this force of greater magnitude. All done with care and love for one another! What a wonderful gift we have being female.

As the relationships begin to form the sisterhood begins. The youngest becomes watched over by the elders of the group. The “mother” heeds warnings and brings wisdom of her years to share. The middle children gather together to discuss the woes of being in the center of the family and then the wonderful dynamics begin. This is a creation that brings entertaining conversation to the dinner table and the laughter begins as the days events are discussed.

I am elated with the sisterhood of women and encourage each of us to think of our relationships with our “non-family” members as family. Co-workers, neighbors and strangers on the street can be seen as our sisters and as we travel along on our journey in life each has something to offer to us. Next time you struggle in a relationship think of the traveling sisterhood of the surf and yoga adventure camps and use them as role models for forming a bond and working together.

I have the pleasure of seeing the door of empowerment opened each and every Best of Both Adventure trip and I always remind them as they travel back to everyday life just to leave the door cracked open. Allow the gift they have given to themselves and the “sisterhood” to be at arms reach! Join the fun with a trip with your current “sisters” or come alone and know that you will meet some friends for life!

This was the greatest experience in my life to date, being in such a beautiful serene enviroment. and meeting beautiful, intellegent and genuinly interesting people just added to the experience as a whole. Seeing the patience of Dez, Michelle and staff was incredible, when it came to surfing and yoga and interacting with everyone on different levels. and of cousre the food was amazing! Very much looking forward to the next trip!

Awakening - Salutations to the Sun

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Winter can be such a long season and as I awoke one morning this week to the sounds of birds I realized. Spring is here! Although they are just starting their journey North to enjoy the milder climates to come, their song is still a good-bye to winter and welcome call to spring!

As each season passes we are reminded of the renewal opportunities given to us through nature. Coming out of the doldrums of winter metaphorically creates an awakening within. We may feel the urge to stand up and shout “I made it!” or just quietly and inwardly reflect on the progress of our personal journey. Either way spring is a reminder of renewal and re-birth. As the days grow longer and the sun gets warmer we can take refuge in the knowledge that summer is just around the bend.

Spring is the perfect time to start or renew your exercise routine, move your yoga practice outdoors or just enjoy a morning walk. Find the key to expanding your journey and awakening your spirit.

As spring unfolds to summer embrace it! Summer is the perfect time to enjoy a vacation and kick start that awakening to new levels. Best of Both Adventures has added new summer dates and locations! Check out our website and start planning today!

Outdoor Yoga tips:

  • Find a flat spot in the grass or place an oversized beach towel down under your mat for stability, decks and cement patios also work well.
  • Select a spot that is indirectly lit by the sun.
  • Face the sun as you will pull in the energy during your practice.
  • Wear a natural insect repellant or burn citronella candles nearby.
  • Enjoy the sounds of nature and even street noise. Embrace all that is around you and be present in the moment.
